Vinifera Culture Is Dead

It’s Time To Start Making Wine For Our Communities

The problem with the current dominant wine culture is not that we have incorrectly marketed it to the new generations. The problem is that we have marketed exactly as it should be marketed according to what it is: an exclusive, classist product of viticultural colonialism. This Euro-chauvinistic “vinifera culture” is dead. Our wine needs to adapt ecologically both to the times and the changing climate. The ecological revolution of wine is here.

The original title of this talk was called Making Wine for My Community, and I structured it as a three part breakdown of the assumptions implicit for most people when they hear those words. We need to revolutionize the ideas implicit in “Making Wine For My Community” if we want to save wine and actually make wine for our communities.
